Br. Dav
id joined Saint John’s Abbey in 1980. After completing a MSLS degree in library science in 1987, he was employed in the Alcuin Library at Saint John’s University as librarian and later as archivist.
In July 2006, David was appointed the Director of the Abbey Guesthouse. He was appointed Guestmaster in April 2013. His duties in the Guesthouse include management and administration of the guesthouse facility and reservation systems, coordinating the Guesthouse reception schedule, and assisting with reservations and providing backup oversight.
David also serves as Abbey Archivist and is an abbey organist.
Director of the Spiritual Life Program
Fr. Joseph entered Saint John’s Abbey in 1993. Since his ordination in 1999, Joseph has served as vocation director for the monastic community and in parish ministry at Saint Augustine’s in St. Cloud, Holy Name of Jesus in Medina, and Saint Joseph in St. Joseph.
Joseph joined the staff of the Abbey Spiritual Life Program in November 2012 and was named its director in March 2013. His duties include planning and organizing the spiritual life program, helping others on private or small group retreats, meeting with those seeking spiritual direction, and supporting the Guesthouse staff with reception and reservation duties. Joseph also serves on the chaplain teams for Saint Benedict’s Monastery and the St. Cloud Correctional Facility, as well as the Abbot’s Senior Council and the Abbey’s Admission’s Committee.
Groups and Accounts Manager
Br. Isidore join
ed Saint John’s Abbey in 1996. Throughout his time at Saint John’s, Isidore has made use of his organizational skills in service to the abbey. He has been employed by the Saint John’s Fire Department, Abbey Woodworking, and Abbey Liturgy, to name a few. He is currently chair of the Abbey’s Task Force for Environmental Sustainability.
In 2007 Isidore joined the staff of the Abbey Guesthouse. As Groups Manager, Isidore works with groups coming for overnight retreats and meetings. He juggles rooms, meals, and meeting space so that each group may enjoy the peaceful and prayerful atmosphere of the Abbey Guesthouse. As Accounts Manager, he oversees the day to day finances of the Guesthouse, ensuring we are able to stay open for years to come.
Guesthouse Porter
Fr. Luke
has been a Benedictine monk for well over 30 years, and has graduate training in ministry as well as in Theology in Monastic Studies. He is an Associate Professor of English at St. John’s University, regularly teaching First-Year Seminar on “Effective Arguments in Community,” and Introductory as well as Advanced Film Studies.
Luke has been serving as a hospitality minister for St. John’s Abbey liturgies for over a decade, and currently serves on the Liturgy Presiders’ Team for St. Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, MN.
In May 2011, Luke was appointed Guesthouse Porter. He will gladly assist in the regular reception of our diverse guests as a member of our Guesthouse staff, and provide our guests with hospitality assistance during their residency with us.
Dining Operations Manager
Hannah re
ceived a Bachelor of Science degree in Culinary Management from the Art Institute International, Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was employed as a grill cook at Chipotle, promoted to kitchen manager, and then to service manager, gaining experience in restaurant management. She specializes in international cuisine, including Latin, Italian, Mediterranean, and North African cuisine.
Hannah joined the Guesthouse staff in 2010 as Chef and Assistant Dining Manager. Now as Dining Operations Manager, Hannah oversees the daily Guesthouse kitchen operations: scheduling, purchasing, management, cooking and baking.
