Guestmaster

Br. Isidore joined Saint John’s Abbey in 1996. Throughout his time at Saint John’s, Isidore has made use of his organizational skills in service to the abbey. He has been employed by the Saint John’s Fire Department, Abbey Woodworking, and Abbey Liturgy, to name a few.

In 2007 Isidore joined the staff of the Abbey Guesthouse. He has served as Assistant Guestmaster, Groups Manager, and Accounts Manager. He was appointed Guestmaster in 2021. His duties in the Guesthouse include management and administration of the guesthouse facility and reservation systems, coordinating the Guesthouse reception schedule, and assisting with reservations and providing backup oversight.

Groups Manager

Fr. Cyril entered Saint John’s Abbey in 1984. He studied theology and spiritual direction at Saint John’s University’s School of Theology, library science at the University of Pittsburgh, and more theology at the University of Notre Dame. He has served as an associate pastor (Diocese of Crookston), as a librarian (Saint John’s University), as an editor (Liturgical Press) and as an assistant guestmaster (here at Saint John’s. From 2006 to 2016, Cyril served in Japan as a member of Saint John’s daughter community, Trinity Benedictine Monastery, Fujimi, Nagano Prefecture. Cyril spent a number of years as chaplain at Nasu Trappist Abbey, Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture.

In 2018, Cyril returned to guest ministry, this time at the Abbey Guesthouse, where he also offers assistance to the Spiritual Life Program.

Assistant Guestmaster

Br. John Chrysostom joined Trinity Benedictine Monastery, Fujimi, Japan in 2009, one of the foundations/dependent priories of Saint John’s Abbey.  Throughout his time at Trinity Benedictine Monastery, John Chrysostom carried out various duties.  In his last three years in Japan, he coordinated the Monastery Guesthouse reception schedule and reservations for overnight guests.

In 2016 Trinity Benedictine Monastery officially closed, and John Chrysostom transferred to Saint John’s Abbey.  He completed a bachelor’s degree in Theology from Saint John’s University and now serves as a Faculty Resident, living in Mary Hall with undergraduates.  He was appointed Assistant Guestmaster of the Abbey Guesthouse in May 2021.

Accounts Manager

Br. Travis entered Saint John’s Abbey in 2022. Travis has worked in a mixture of analytical and ministerial positions. As a student of CSB/SJU, he served as a teaching assistant and tutor in the mathematics department, later graduating from St. John’s University with a degree in economics and mathematics. Afterwards, he spent a year in Tanzania volunteering through the Benedictine Volunteer Corps. Travis then worked as a demand forecasting analyst for Best Buy in Minneapolis.

In 2022, Travis joined the Abbey Guesthouse staff as Accounts Manager and Spiritual Life Program Coordinator. In 2023 he began seminary studies and remains Accounts Manager for the Guesthouse.

Spiritual Life Program Coordinator

Br. Hang Geum Augustine (a.k.a. ‘Augustine’), born in Seoul, South Korea, entered Saint John’s Abbey in 2023.  He graduated from Saint John’s School of Theology with an MA in Liturgical Music in 2021. He holds undergraduate degrees in economics, political science, and law. Following a JD degree, he completed his Master of Law degree in 2018.

Augustine served in the South Korean Army for more than two years as a brigadier general’s chauffeur. Before and after his military service, he was a protocol officer at international airports and athletes’ villages for the International Olympic Committee in 1999, FIFA World Cup Soccer Korea/Japan in 2002 and Pyeongchang Paralympics in 2018. Augustine is an avid yoga with rosary practitioner, and he is a certified instructor of SOULCORE.

In 2023, Augustine joined the Guesthouse staff as Spiritual Life Program Coordinator.
