“Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch” (Luke 5:4).

Six-Day Directed Retreat

We invite you to participate in a silent, six-day retreat during which you can cast into the deep waters of your faith.  Contemplate, relax, revel, and enjoy God’s guidance in your life.

Comments from Past Retreat Participants

I was renewed, replenished and lavished in God’s love.

The retreat met my expectations which included the ‘expectation’ that I would be surprised by personal spiritual growth in unknown ways.

The Benedictine spirit of hospitality is one of the greatest teachers. It resonates in every experience.

I was touched by the sense of community that developed among the retreat participants – even in silence.

To anyone who asks me about my week here, I will say, ‘Come and see.’

The Program

This retreat has minimal scheduled times together for the retreatants. Other than an opening and closing ritual, there are no group presentations or conferences. The daily rhythm will consist of meals taken together in the silent atmosphere of the retreat as well as an invitation to join the Saint John’s monastic community for daily prayer and Eucharist. Each retreatant will be matched with a spiritual director based on the information provided in the application process. The focus of the daily spiritual direction sessions will be the retreatant’s prayer life and experience of God.

The retreat is a time of being rather than doing. It is a time of entering more deeply into one’s relationship with God. The spiritual director might suggest a particular Scripture passage to assist the retreatant to focus on his or her own life experiences and on the call of God in one’s life.

The basic assumption of this retreat is that because we are loved by God unconditionally, we are invited to enter more fully—with our whole selves—into a relationship with Jesus Christ that results in our coming to view ourselves more consciously as participants in Christ’s mission, in the kingdom of God.

The retreat begins with dinner at 5:30 p.m. on the first evening and concludes with dinner on the last evening. The cost of $585 includes a single room, meals, and daily spiritual direction.

Space is limited, and reservations are taken in the order received.
